For 20 years, Cormate has been designing and developing unique powerboats in the premium segment. With ten models ranging from 21 to 35 feet, Cormate has made a significant impact on both the Norwegian and international boating industries.
Founder and Chief Designer Egil Ranvig established the company in September 2004 after selling Hydrolift, which he founded in 1985. Egil Ranvig also celebrates his 40th anniversary as a boat designer and constructor at the same time. Cormate started its journey in Fredrikstad, where all design, research, development, and production were conducted from day one. With its first model, the T27, Cormate got off to a fantastic start, winning the “Boat of the Year” award in 2006. Its successor, the Cormate T28, also won the “Highly Commended Award” at BOOT 2024, highlighting the brilliant design that has endured over the past two decades.
Heavily influenced by Egil Ranvig’s offshore racing background, Cormate has been a trendsetter in the daycruiser segment across Europe. Cormate has stayed true to its philosophy of design, functionality, and performance in all of its models, winning several international awards along the way. After ten years of growth, Cormate moved all production to Poland to meet increasing demand. Today, Cormate boats are produced by two dedicated shipyards, both focused on the quality and finish that characterize all Cormate models. Design, testing, and quality control are still carried out at the headquarters outside Fredrikstad. Cormate is also one of the few Scandinavian boat brands that has consistently delivered strong financial results, which led to the acquisition of the prestigious Swedish brand RYDS BOATS in 2024.
In its 20th year, Cormate also launched the new model Utility 27 / Super Utility 27, which won the “Boat of the Year” award at the Oslo International Boatshow 2024. Cormate has now designed, engineered, and developed a total of ten different models within the walk-around/day cruiser segment and has won numerous awards for its work.
Cormate has been nominated for or won the following awards:
- 2024 Boat of the Year – Norway, Båter i Sjøen – Cormate Super Utility 27
- 2024 Highly Commended – BOOT 2024 – Cormate T28
- 2024 Motorboat Awards finalist – BOOT 2024 – Cormate T28

Founder and Chief Designer Egil Ranvig commented on the company’s success: “We always strive to achieve our number one priority in all our models, namely the holy trinity of design, functionality, and performance. If we fail to combine these three qualities in the development process, we start over. My experience from 40 years in boat design is that many other brands manage to combine two of these three pillars, but only a few succeed in achieving all three in one boat.”
Cormate Boats has dealers in ten countries across Europe, including Australia, and the export of this strong Norwegian brand is increasing globally. In the summer of 2024, the very first boat was sold to the USA, where the company sees significant opportunities for further growth.
